Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Committees and Worker Health and Safety (WH&S) Representatives Workplace Health and Safety (WH&S) Designates

Course Format: The course format includes, fourteen (14) hours of classroom instruction with the visual aid of a power point presentation.

Course Objectives: To provide the Occupational Health and Safety Committees and Worker Health and Safety Representatives/Designates the basis knowledge they require to fulfill their duties and responsibilities under the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

Topic 2: Occupational Health & Safety Legislation

  • The purpose of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations
  • The "Internal Responsibility System"
  • Establishing “Due Diligence" in the workplace
  • Refusing unsafe work - “Right to Refuse" and the role of OH&S Committees/ WH&S Representatives/Designates in the Right to Refuse" unsafe work
  • The legislative duties of key people involved in OH&S: Employers, Workers, OH&S Committees /WH&S Representatives/Designates, Contractors, Department of Government Services, and Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission
