Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission ~ Certified Training Provider: Power Line Hazards

Course Format: The course format includes, four (4) hours of classroom instruction with the visual aid of a power point presentation and a video.

Course Objectives: The primary purpose of Power line Hazards training is to prevent injuries and accidents from occurring while working near power lines.

Occupational Health and Safety Regulations of Newfoundland and Labrador states: "A person shall not operate a mobile crane, boom truck or similar equipment without having first completed a safety training program on power line hazards as prescribed by the commission."

Course Duration: Four (4) Hours

Cost: $85.00 per/person

Topic 1: Discuss need for training for power line hazards training

Topic 2: Recognize power line structures

Topic 3: Distinguish between conductors and insulators

Topic 4: Identify the characteristics of electricity

Topic 5: Identify how electricity travels

Topic 6: Discuss the effects of electricity

Topic 7: Identify step is the emergency response to contact with power lines

Topic 8: Apply relevant sections of the Occupational Heath and Safety Regulations

Topic 9: Review employers' and workers rights and duties
